Ask for your illegal bank charges back! - Step 3

Now you’ve got your documents back from the bank, its time to ask for your money back. Keep in mind the law, and state that all the charges you have listed and attached are disproportionate in the eyes of the law and that you request an immediate refund with all the interest included. At this point a few things can happen.

  1. They pay out - In some cases the bank will write to you and offer to pay all the money back but usually they will enter negotiations.
  2. You get no response or they refuse to pay - This is the most common outcome, you’re ignored or you get a response explaining that in the banks eyes the charges are lawful.

They will try to stall you or put you off but don’t be fooled, you are legally entitled to these charges. Just ignore this, the bank knows your entitled to payment and its all part of the negotiation process, so its time to go to step 4.

I have just received back from the bank the charges made to our bank account from March 2002 to May 2004 a total of 4710 in charges this is unbelievable. This is a quarter of my salary for one year. Can you provide a template letter for me to ask for these or some of the charges to be paid back. I have been ill for several years in and out of hospital the bank were aware of this I am shocked at the total amount. Please can you help.

    Hiya,
When I heard about all this ‘claiming charges back’ thought I wouldnt benifit from it !
Was told by several people “request statements from bank” this I did. Was informed to send a cheque (think it was for £10) did so.
All statements came through with a letter infoming me they were waivering the fee and that due to the test case due at the end of 2007 I had to await the ruling before it would progess.
Ok, so what do I do now ? do I wait to be contacted…….Send the statements in………re-apply………I am flumoxed.
Please give guideance on this matter.

    Thanking you in eager anticipation,

    Wendy
